Orcas Island Shakespeare Society
Founded in 2019 our organization continues development with a gradual infusion of passion for the work of William Shakespeare into the community of Orcas Island, in San Juan County Washington.
HELP US ORGANIZE
Volunteer your skills: general administration, graphic/web design, social media, photo/videography, public relations, writing, editing, play direction, stage management, set construction, stage crew, AV/lighting & more.
JOIN US IN READING
Shakespeare’s plays were not written to be read alone in silence; they are meant to be heard (if not also seen). Monthly meetings are open to all and there’s no public performance for an audience. We’re reading aloud, with discussion and enjoyment. (Maybe tea & crumpets?)
BECOME A PLAYER
If you find entertaining in public fun, than join us to enact scenes, complete plays, and original sketches. We aim to perform throughout the year — at the Farmer’s Market, other public spaces, in classrooms, and at our annual Shakespeare Festival.

If you live on Orcas Island and have more than a passing interest in Shakespeare, consider joining a society that celebrates the Bard and the zeitgeist of his times right here in San Juan County. Regardless of your level of knowledge and experience, all that is required is a commitment to volunteering some time and energy. OISS would like to grow a gamut of passionate souls who want to co-create and cultivate something fantastic!
